The Culture, Health and Wellbeing Alliance (CHWA) and London Arts and Health (LAH) are pleased to be collaborating on a paid opportunity for Black History Month 2024.

The theme for this year is ‘Reclaiming Narratives,’ and we are specifically looking for work that responds to this, and are inviting people to interpret this theme in a way that speaks to them. Selected pieces will be featured through the CHWA bulletin and LAH newsletter, website and social media channels throughout October 2024.
Please note we invite people who have personal or professional experience in relation to this theme. Please respect this held space and do not apply if you don’t fit this criteria.
Access is important to us. Please scroll down for full access information.
The Opportunity
We’re asking for pitches for contributions that put ‘Reclaiming Narratives’ at the heart of creative health work. Pitches can be any of the following:
- A creative reflection
- An example of previous practice
- An artput (visual, audio, text based)
- A unique blog or essay idea
Pitches must respond to or explore the theme of ‘Reclaiming Narratives’ in the context of creative health. This could be something that already exists as part of your portfolio of work, or it can be a pitch for a new idea. Pitches should be for audio, visual or text-based work, that can be easily shared digitally. Please consider the timeline below when pitching your piece.
CHWA and LAH will review applications, and chose a maximum of six pitches to commission for the project. As part of our commitment to fair geographic representation, up to 4 of the pieces commissioned will be from practitioners working outside of London.
The Fee
Each commissioned piece will receive a fee of £150, in line with our new policy on paid engagement with freelance, unwaged, part-time or low-waged colleagues.
Eligibility
To be eligible you must:
- Have personal or professional experience relating to the theme
- Be an artist/practitioner working in creative health in the UK (this can be in a salaried, freelance, or voluntary basis)
- If commissioned, be able to meet the deadline of 27th Sept unless discussed with the CHWA/LAH team
- Be aged 18+
The Timeline
The deadline to apply is by 10am on Monday 9th September.
CHWA and LAH will then contact all candidates by Friday 13th September.
Successful candidates will need to submit their full contributions by Friday 27th September. If you are selected and have access needs that will make this timescale difficult, please do talk to us. We will work with you to find a solution.
